Frequently asked questions

Is CitizenJourney really free?

Yes. The civics practice, flashcards, mock tests, eligibility checker, and timeline calculator are all free with no sign-up. We are a student-run public service. Some advanced features may carry a small fee later to cover server and staffing costs, but the core prep stays free.

Which civics test should I study — the 2025 or 2008 version?

USCIS updated the civics test in late 2025. Most people who apply now take the 2025 version (128 questions; the officer asks 20 and you need 12 correct). Many who filed earlier still take the 2008 version (100 questions; 10 asked, 6 to pass). You can choose either version on the practice page.

Are the questions the official USCIS questions?

Yes. The civics questions and answers come from the official USCIS materials, which are public domain. We add plain-English explanations and practice formats. Always confirm current details — especially current office-holders — at uscis.gov.

Is this legal or immigration advice?

No. CitizenJourney is a study and information resource and is not affiliated with USCIS or any government agency. Nothing here is legal advice. For your specific case, consult USCIS or a qualified immigration attorney.

Do I need to create an account?

No account is needed. Your study progress, streak, and readiness score are saved privately in your browser on this device.
